Treatment Team

What We Do For You

Our practice utilizes a team approach to the diagnosis and treatment of the complex disorders of our patients. Each patient is assessed by our Physician and Lifestyle Educator. Psychological professionals may be employed to screen for and treat disorders, such as depression, that can prevent healing. Exercise capacity may be assessed. Pastoral counseling is also available for spiritual issues that impact complete healing.

After appropriate testing, our team meets to discuss the patient and design a custom treatment plan. This is then reviewed with the patient. Treatment may include:

  • Nutritional therapy
  • Vitamins and Supplements
  • Herbal therapy
  • Massage/Exercise therapy
  • Thyroid and Adrenal support
  • Bio-identical Hormones
  • Detoxification/Biotoxin therapy
  • Selected pharmaceuticals
  • Counseling and pastoral care

Emphasis is placed on restoring balance to the body to allow it to heal.

Alan W. Gruning, DO, FACOEP is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. He is our Medical Director. After 20 years of caring for acutely ill patients, Dr. Gruning left the Emergency Department to provide the best possible care for auto accident injuries. After he developed Chronic Fatigue himself, Dr. Gruning did much additional study on natural therapies that heal. He has been effectively treating these complex patients for several years. He understands the importance of holistic treatment and spending time with the patient to fully evaluate their complaints. He also seeks to heal the whole person-body, mind and spirit-because that is what provides the greatest long term success.

Psychological professionals are used to screen for depression and anxiety that can either be the cause, or the result, of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. It is often very difficult to determine what came first. Regardless, these disorders must be identified and treated for the patient to heal. The mind is very powerful and when it is not feeling well it can cause the same symptoms as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue or can perpetuate these disorders. Certainly, a disturbance in our mind can affect our sleep, which is a major culprit in these disorders. Medications are only a bandaid on the problem; in order to rid patients of depression and anxiety, professional counseling is needed.

The International Center for Health and Wellness is blessed to have two experienced and compassionate counselors, Bill Frank and Denise Zoldan . They have a love for our patients and are dedicated to helping them get well. We often find that as patients go through counseling, their symptoms either disappear or are greatly reduced.

Spiritual counseling is also available for those patients who wish to pursue spiritual answers and healing. We know from experience that the condition of our spiritual life greatly impacts our physical and mental health, well being, and sleep. It is here that we discover inner healing and peace that only God can give us. Often, as we pursue answers to our big life questions, and rid ourselves of past hurts and habits, we are free to experience the complete healing God wants us to have. He is the Lord who heals.

Patients at the International Center for Health and Wellness have access to an array of physical treatments to aid in their recovery for Chronic Fatigue and relief of pain from Fibromyalgia.

Massage therapy by Licensed Massage Therapists include deep tissue, trigger point, and myofascial release techniques. These treatments increase blood flow to painful tissues, help to remove toxins, break up trigger points and increase muscle flexibility.

Exercise therapy by our Personal Trainer includes both stretching, flexibility, and strength training tailored to the physical capabilities and disorder of the patient. It is counter productive to do too much exercise with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue as it can worsen symptoms of fatigue; however, exercise is essential in healing, so just the right amount and kind must be done.

Modalities available to help with pain symptoms include heat, ice, ultrasound, interferential electrical stimulation, and TENS. Hydrotherapy in our hot tub can be extremely beneficial for Fibromyalgia patients.
